hahah wasnt that baseball players cockpit flight software running a windoes Vista Beta before he crashed into

Posted in Politics at 10:19 pm by Michael Johnson

:P The unions forced the companies on the safety thing.

btw here are the specs

same thing…for airline industry….why didn’t the legacy airlines keep their superior service….you should expect even after 9/11…that people would pay enough money to keep paying for those services, even with competition with the Low Cost Carriers.

Seagate / 320GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive

Since it came down to “Make things safer, or not have a company anymore”

some people try to make it sound like the first factories were evil on purpose, judging by today’s standards … go ahead if you insist, but it’s simply not true

That’s a good one.

Any comments astro ?

not even close

bastard socialists!

Ok cool

and you know what…Legacy Airliners are trying to be like the Low Cost Carriers….

as usual you have history completely backwards

only Contiential is somewhat upholding old “Legacy” standards.

he does?

The end of robber barons and incredibly unsafe labor conditions can be directly attributed to the rise of organized labor, and its pressures on government.

go ahead and keep putting out urban legends

Make sure you have the cables.. many OEM drives come without them

nice, except that there were never any robber barons

oh really

Heh.

that’s mythology created by the muckrakers to sell their social agenda

Rockefeller might disagree with you.

yes, astrodog….workers forced private industires to shape up….private owners didn’t do it by themselves.

yeah, the railroad and steel guys never existed

i dunno about you. but i sure has hell don’t want to live in a Corporate controlled society. I almost prefer our incompetent government to THAT dystopian image.

how do you define “robber?”

FreeTrade your getting a new hd

“Robber Baron” is a specific term.

do you know who gave the railroads free property at government expense?

It doesn’t refer to the same kind of robber, that say “Bank Robber” refers to.

and it’s meaningless

I sure would not want to be living in the end of the 19th century in a urban envionrment….

businesses which use the lack of any oversight to sell shoddy and often dangerous stuff to people with no quality control and/or no correlation between advertised and actual function, etc.

doesn’t sound even remotely like a robber to me

I came across the term ‘economic royalist’ today well, fraud.

Gimme a sec.

and monopoly

a robber holds you at sword/pistol point and takes what you happen to have on you at the time

OcDoc, The Jungle told us how meatprocessors put rodients into the food….thus the first “food” regulatiosn were born….

FreeTrade where you buying this one from what webpage

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robber_baron_(industrialist)

The Jungle, a book by oh…I forget his name.

Upton Sinclair.

yes, and it was mostly made up … why would anyone “put” rodents into their meat on purpose? Sinclair Lewis

private industry at that point…could have corrected it themselves…but did they?

hahah “evil on purpose” hahahahhahah

yeah … Upton Sinclair

TrekkerCC you didn’t have their meat idiot TrekkerCC no one forced thier meat

“mwaaahahahaha! let’s put a rat into this beef … har har”

it’s called not caring

Correct. Your point stands about the same way someone arguing that “Republican” really means “Republished Lichen”.

OcDoc it a lie

gop_, so it is ok….if you can get away with it?

rat is a great spice

lol astro

to this day the government regulates how many rat hairs and turds you can have in your food

TrekkerCC your not forced to eat it TrekkerCC I don’t eat meat

to the extent it’s able to enforce that, it’s supposed to be as close to zero as possible.

it’s impossible to keep it OUT of the food … back then there was little incentive to reduce the amount, and little technology if you wanted to

gop_, nope…but a person expects….and the government enforces a certain level of cleaniness at a factory.

TrekkerCC you have a choose

Or, that Government really mean a ruler who governs with the flavor of menthol.

and certain minmum level of safety?

workers forced private industries to change, and got beaten and killed in the battle. got called communist and anti-American for their trouble. and now unions are subjugated by organized crime and the feds are ok with that. god forbid that unions remain honest and for the people.

it’s possible to minimize unsafe conditions and ingredients.

TrekkerCC I don’t execpt goverment to do nothing

like teach us spelling.

so the best companies figured out how to and marketed their success … and the muckrakers made a big deal out of it and THEN the government came along and set standards and collected graft on the enforcement end

Timur wtf

Graft?

correct … NOW we do … back then they didn’t

You mean, fines?

gop_, how THE HELL would I know…what goes on at a facotry? I have to trust the private owners/businesses to make sure they are providing some minimum level of safety…..and with government oversight….I can feel safe that they do.

no … bribes NOT to enforce

TrekkerCC you do research TrekkerCC do you just buy a car, becuase it looks cute

A business, when it offers a product, also implies that there is a certain fitness for a purpose.

gop_, in the 19th century, again HOW THE HELL is a person suppose to research it? there was no internet

When I buy a burger, I expect it to be fit for human consumption.

TrekkerCC do you just do that, or do you use your brain and think why should I buy x and why not

of course you have ways of being reasonably sure how clean … the only difference is who does the inspections

no real “independent” newspaper…to check out the factories.

TrekkerCC thier many ways

ok, bbl.

implies how?

TrekkerCC say who

gop_, have you read some of the newspapers back then?

that sounds like an assumption on your part without any logical support

Its got legal support. It is fair to assume, that if a company sells, lets say, “Gasoline”, they won’t fill your gas tank with water, instead.

if I go to a burger store and eat a burger, I get what they give me … if I ask if it’s pure beef and they say “Yes” but it’s not, it’s fraud logical and legal are frequently NOT the same thing

Fitness for purpose means that if there’s something exceptional, that’s differnt from what someone can reasonably expect, the company has a duty to inform the person.

logic != legal

that same kind of logic leads to the conclusion by many people that the light comes on because you flipped the switch

no. its plausible deniablilty because they were certain that it was pure, but of course it also contained kangaroo and rat and whale..and only the regional manager was aware of this and covered it up.

many legisalstors astrodog don’t use logi

They are still talking about them dickheads stuck in the mountains

c akhenaton it fruad

I think 0.1% of kangaroo is allowed

OcDoc, and how do I know….that a person will not try to sell me gasoline “water” with something that smells like gasoline.

it’s still fraud

why the fuck would you go there for fun

But… the Kangaroo is what makes it taste so good…

you don’t … and you still don’t know if government sets a standard

Jumpin good !

so on the offhand chance it is discovered, that regional middle man loses his job, you get 100 free hamburgers, and the company thaws out the premium burgers for 3 months before things revert back to business as usual.

Government DOES set a standard.

you rely on the reputation of the business, and if you want to pay extra for extra security, you buy only from places that certify it through independent inspections

When you sell a product, it must be atleast somewhat fit for the purpose that you claim its fit for.

you still don’t know the certification is legit though

you really can never know for sure, govt inspeactions just prove they are capable of making the proper prodcut

well, that’s a different argument … I’m talking about alternatives to what we have now, and how good what we have now is

OcDoc, true, but the government can later sue those companies that are fraudulent…

government inspections don’t protect you from corrupt inspectors

but generally if they are capable of doing it for the inspector, they wil go ahead and do it at least most of the time for customers

Its my belief, that what we have now… corporations, with government oversight, is better than the alternatives.

plus the government money has enough money to stay in a long term suit, which a ordinary citizen may not be able to.

they can anyway

that’s true, of course any human can be corrupt

that’s my whole point … if the company assures you that you’re getting pure, clean beef and they lied, the government can still prosecute them for fraud

Corporations increase investment.

TrekkerCC that my ppint if the company say it beef it beef

and if you get sick from eating the meat they gave you, the government can still prosecute them for harming you

Regulation prevents the unreasonable externilzation of costs.

TrekkerCC that why you have better bussiness bureur

why should I want increased investment?

OcDoc even better you have better bussiness bercure berure that is private

does it? prove it

gop_…government makes sure through regulation…that it does not engage in frauduelent practices against competitors or against the general citizenry.

that inspect bussiness for fual fruad

Increased investment, means increased economic growth.

I’m sorry…I trust the government for oversight…than any other private organizations…

I”m aware that that’s the excuse fans of government use, but I don’t think you’ve proven that it works that way

TrekkerCC how can the better bussiness beurure not also do that and do it better

tanstaafl! trust the government? You for free crack too ?

it does? prove it … Enron is a counter-example to your claim

I don’t say I trust it….very mcuh….but I hell trust the government more than a private business…

why should I want increased economic growth?

Government oversight is what finally caught Enron.

If I give the gu’bmint $100 what will their budget be? $1000? 1 million? bingo

of course not … the disappearance of the retirement fund was what blew the whistle … the government didn’t have a clue

for once thing….government are transparent by their nature….private businesses by definition do not have to share any of its information with the public (other than required by law)

TrekkerCC when goverment gives you free “chesse” how doyou know it free “chesee”

Uh?

you can creat a new body for oversight if you want, but then if they have legal authority they will become “government”

you can trust the government to work int he best interet of the government, not the citizen, but the pencil pusher in power today

No, that’s not what caused it.

they declared bankruptcy long before the government came along and “caught” them

Enron’s retirement fund didn’t die off until well after the SEC was forcing them to refile.

Free cheese is worth every penny you pay for it.

TrekkerCC when goverment gives you free “chesse” how doyou know it free “chesee”…….

lol

Astro correct

hah. the BBB is just a complaints log.

they pulled some fast accounting shuffles quickly

so…for most purposes…I can go to the government…and file a FOIA request and get the information I need….I cannot do that with a private organization…they would tell me to go to hell.

are you really that clueless? you think the government “caught” Enron?

…….///////////TrekkerCC when goverment gives you free “chesse” how doyou know it free “chesee”…….

the government caught their accountants. sort of

I know the government caught Enron, in the end. It was the SEC and fed investigations that got Enron’s credit knocked to “Junk Bond”

that’s just silly … you can file a lawsuit against a corporation and get whatever you want from them during discovery

And that’s what made everything collapse, in the end.

gop_….I can request to the government…to see what is in the “free cheese”…if it is really free cheese?

HonK if you love Cheeses

TrekkerCC how do you know what you request is true

red dye number 2 mon and di glyserides, emulsifiers ogh yeah and 2% moo huice

Ew.

OcDoc, only if you have a valid claim against them….if you weren’t harmed directly by any of their actions….they would rip up your request for information

Moo Huice. :P

I think we had Gubmint Cheese a few time when I was a kid

honked TrekkerCC how do you know what you request is true………

Gubmint cheese is pretty good…

that assumes that the government actually knows, or that what they have is accurate and not forged by bribed officials

astro it is FDA aproved!

Better than craft, anyway.

the BBB allows for a business to resolve an issue with the client and if they do, then they remove the complaint. and if they don’t the complaint remains on record. thats about all the BBB does in reality.

*kraft

better business bureau

…….TrekkerCC how do you know what you request is true………

I know my parents went and got cheep bulk cheese from somehwere

do you know how many times judges dismiss claims before discovery?

a few times when it was rough

close to zero

i had govt cheese once when i was a kid, was very close to inedible

err cheap

Then it wasn’t government cheese.

OcDoc, I could produce the documents and show the Government and sue them for fraud….of courre…at a private company…liekly by the time I could ge t the documents…the company would have a litlte “shredder” party….

akhenaton the bbb does more better job

Government cheese is *gasp*, actually cheese. :P

gubmint cheese is the best you can get. its subsidized farmer cheese. organic to a fault

I can’t remember if they paid or it was free

I would pay for government cheese.

TrekkerCC same with goverment

:P

the gov cheese program was a direct result of the gov dairy farmer support program. that is, to maintain dairy proces, the feds buy milk and make cheese or deydrate…things that last longer then warehouse it BUT

TrekkerCC your saying goverment don’t have machines to shred

shredding evidence after you find out there is a legal action is an offense for which you can be imprisoned

my grandfather used to get gov’t cheese when he was in vermont.. it was Cabot :-)

astrodog how is goverment cheese better

the free chese program was attacked int ehearly days of welfare by the grocery lobby

but keep trying to say that government is better

Fuckin grocers. I’m glad Wal-Mart’s crushing them, then. :P

Lupine| how did it taste

Take my cheese, will you!

well, I better hit the showers … laterz guyz

cabot cheese? one of the best main-stream brands out there

astro the whole idea was poor folks (with no loot anyway) are gettin free so they ain’t buying

astrodog walmart has better cheese

OcDoc, I trust government officials better…than private business owners…and I distrust what the Government is trying to say most of the time.

FOOD STAMPS! they can buy we goet money and pnecil pushers get more work

private business is accountable to no one but themselves and their bottom line, and in certain cases the government. so what makes them more trustworthy? nothing.

akhenaton wrong to it consumer

akhenaton this is a bad thing? I do not understand

everyone is accountable to the government, through law

food stamps…are intended to help the poor with food expernses…I’m assuming you want every American to be able to eat?

even the govt itself

adding a layer of beuracracy somehow makes you safer?

through law. laws don’t apply to everything. only instances where laws might be broken. nope. didn’t say none of that.

depends. If they have money for crack or cellphones, then no.. I do not wish to be paying for them.

that’s right but everyone is accountable to obey all the laws which apply

you now trust a clueles suit instead of a clued producer? this makes me feel better? how?

i just ask you what makes you think private business is about trust?

US-Male, actually….the government is not always accountable to the people….it cannot be generally sued…unless it provided through law or the agency in question waives sovereign immunity.

in fact even the garbageman has to follow nuclear regulatory laws. That is, if he wants to run a nuke plant.

TrekkerCC why is goverment the only soultion

I didn’t mention “the people”

and by adding the layer of gov to the proces all you EVER do is add a layer subject to corruption bribery and outright fraud far greater then usign the marketplace as the govonor of the process

pilgrim`: you want Swiss field radio with 50watt hand-crank generator? only $129.97

TrekkerCC it is much easyier to pay off govermenet offical

although the people can vote out anyone or his boss’s boss at some level, except the Judiciary

well…the fact is in…texas, they have credit card like food stamp program…which denies any non-buyable good from being purchased.

Lupine I have a crank radio. 2 actually and 1 is a WWII emergency tranciever on thr 40 meter band

Lupine| your argument against mac not being comptaible is wrong

trade alliance and willful transparency is the solution. an agreement not to screw me from behind. right now we have two alternatives. and neither is the lesser of two evils. its just..what flavor of evil do you want to try today. private sector or government

pilgrim` can it get sw broadcast

eh? concerning what? they’re compatabile in many areas, not so in som eothers

I can’t get rid of the incompetent guy at the DMV, but I the people can vote out his boss’s boss’s boss…… 10 levels up or whatever

Lupine| you can run osx on many or any x86 newer system youc an

gop limited badnwidth yes, but for receive I have a BC348; tube type rdio from a B29 bomber

from p4 to amd

of course

err not “me” but the people collectively

OSX for x86 at least

if they want to

yes

Dead Moo

it campitable Lupine| so you have no argument Lupine| futhermore drawin is open source

what are you jawing on about?

thus allowing it for easy driver dev

pilgrim` okay, how about a WWII Altitude Correction Computer?

I recall last year you saying, how youstold y our company no more macs but when infact macs are so compatable

I have a 20gb drive with 10.4.6 installed. I can plug into any PC and see if it is compatable

question for the business is best for everything crowd? do you think the private industry would provide the comperable level of defense..if it were totally privatized…totally privatized Army, Air Force, Navy, etc.

that was when the G5 came out. We decided not to waste our efforts on porting from MacOS to OS-X

LUPINE HOW ABOUT A (GRANTED RUSTY AND OUT OF TUNE) NORTON BOMBSITE BUNKIE

when people feel the need to upgrade their computer in order to run the new Windows Vista disaster, millions will switch to a mac.

Lupine| so your company made a error when not getting any pc osx developer boxes

I was playing with Vista last night RC 2 man

and instead, focused on real time OS’s

I do like MacBook…it’s very good for schoool work.

Lupine| I recall you ranting how you won’t get x86 boxes Lupine| osx server is real time

eh? profitability as excellent the year before I sold out :-) in part due to axing MacOS support

pilgrim` how is that junk

lol.. no.. OS-X server is not a real time OS

So far, 69 members of the military, prison guards, law enforcement employees and other public employees have been convicted of accepting bribes to help smuggle cocaine.

yes it is it is 64 bit

pilgrim` You know, there was a time.. you would ahve been shot for having one of those ;-)

I was getting so mad with the networking..

This is why the drug war is not only wrong, its idiotic.

it has runs on the mach kernel Lupine|

being a real time OS has nothing to do with the bit-width

the mach kernel is realtime

Lupine I know

here’s an interesting example of industry oversight(non-government): “Dell said Friday that it has received a letter from the Nasdaq saying the company was not in compliance with listing requirements because it was late to file its fiscal third-quarter report.”

Heh.

All it does is encourage corruption and high profits for people who dont deserve them. Tax free even.

please.. i wont waste anymore time on this with you.. it is NOT a real time operating system.

NASDAQ warned Dell, and Novell about delisting.

Dell’s excuse is, ironically, a govt.-oversight agency: “The world’s No. 2 PC maker previously said it would delay filing the report due to an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission into the company’s accounting and financial reporting for possible misstatements.”

But, the feds are what make lying to Nasdaq illegal.

they blame SEC

Lupine| it has memory protection Lupine| and nt 4.0 was a real time os

Uh.

US I bet they will be ok, Nasdaq usually lets them slide after warning them and threatening them

NT 4.0 was NOT an RTOS.

I don’t know that they lied to Nasdaq

astrodog let it go.. it aint worth it :-)

they just didn’t comply by filing the report on time

Oh they lied ? What did they say ?

actually, to avoid lying

so what don’t make osx a real time os astrodog

I don’t want to go to Microsoft Vista…its activation system seems even more restrictive than XP was.

if freebsd is a real time os, so is osx

drug war is simply drug market regulation. it guarantees a certain quality of drug, shipping policies and pricing.

OSX is also not an RTOS.

no there’s no allegation of lying

FreeBSD isn’t, either.

red herring

what the hell is a real time os?

astrodog is windows xp a real time os

An RTOS is an operating system that can garuntee the execution of a process, at a given moment in time. Nope.

astrodog but qnx is based on bsd and freebsd is bsd and it a real time os

Or, that can garuntee execution based on an event.

osx can be tuned to work like qnx

in this case, Nasdaq’s “teeth” is just to de-list them no force of law and if they were de-listed it would screw them up badly

What makes something an RTOS, or not, is how it schedules processes.

FreeBSD is NOT a realtime OS.

They’d probably just become a pinksheet.

I seen embedded kiosk of osx astrodog and xp

they’d get relisted somewhere

Nasdaq often threatens and doesnt actually do it. They dont want to lose them to the NYSE or other competitors, they probably want dell to get its act together and do whats required to meet their rules. IM surprised Michael Dell would allow this kind of fuckup.

I already said that. :P

probably back to nasdaq wth is a realtime OS anyway

that’s true….but how likely is it for Nasdaq to really delist them

wel nasdaq has threatened to do it already

Its an operating system that can garuntee that a given process, runs at a given time, or that it runs immediately in response to an event.

oh

yes…but threatening and actuallly doing it…are two different things

it is a deterministic OS.. where you can hard set it do so certain things at an exact point in time.

When are people going to learn about the drug wars negatives. This was 1oos of agents probably and millions which could of goine toward terrorism Maybe they need a conservative to explain it to them. to run on it..

Lupine| but I seen embmded version of osx

so which OS’s are realtime

in kiosk

An RTOS facilitates the creation of a real-time system, but does not guarantee the final result will be real-time; this requires correct development of the software. An RTOS does not necessarily have high throughput; rather, an RTOS provides facilities which, if used properly, guarantee deadlines can be met generally (soft real-time) or deterministically (hard real-time). An RTOS will typically use specialized scheduling algorithms in order to provide in other words, noone cares.

blame Nancy Reagan!

“In addition to the SEC, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the company’s audit committee have raised questions about Dell’s financial reporting”

cyr so who uses rtos only a nitche market

NY is always going after everyone but they do house the main stock exchanges

Whats realtime mean exactly

alot of industrial control and measurement systems using RTOS

rtos is no guarantee of any better performance, its just a new type of framework for programmers.

so there must be some pressure

RTOSs are used for things like machine control and autopilots and whatnot.

US oh no that sounds bad.

Lupine| but I seen a lot of control system run on visual basic not sure why

in my case, it is to ensure critical timing

rtos does not guarantee any of that.

Usually they get threatened when the share price drops or they dont file paperwork, but cooking the books could be bad news.

FreedBSD, OS X and *most* desktop/server OSs are NOT intended for reatltime applications.

visual basic or other languages are often used as a scripting host, which is then sent to the controller

I would get out of dell for awhile. Though I am not in it.

well yea.. if you are an idiot programmer :P

RTOS when you need it to happen exactly when it is supposed to happen, and cant have a pause in the process waiting for something to pass or queue

Yaakov why

Yaak what is a realtime application to a dumby like me ?

There *are* RTOS-ified version of Linux, and even of Windows XP.

I still have a few shares of Dell, probably not worth me selling

new linux kernel is rtos

or maybe I should sell now and forget Dell

If you buy an airplane you’d better make sure your glass cockpit is not running OS X.

it’s like $450. heh

this rescue thing on Mt hood, what people may not remember is they are all tied together. this is very steep, the last 500 feet of the ascent to the top is extremely steep.

or Windows, or FreeBSD or ordinary Linux…

yeahhh talk nerdy to me

theres no future for Dell unless they start building macs.

Yaakov hmm

hahah wasn’t that baseball player’s cockpit flight software running a windoes Vista Beta before he crashed into that skyscraper?

But it isn’t important for desktop or server applications.

Yaakov how about osx server

You have do dig in, footprints with a ice axe and where steel shoews with metal extrusions to get traction and you rope off to everyone, and sometimes anchor off to something which can hold their weight if they can fall.

RTOS is for closed-loop control systems.

A boy refuses to ride with his mother who he says was drunk. good call

on my RT/system.. I have an ensured event time of ~1nSec

12yr old boy

those climbers are pretty much all but found

No. No version of OS X is realtime, and there is no reason for it to be.

I’d bet $100 they all walk out of there

Lupine| you programed that your self

it is established by the timing clock in the particular system

although I wonder why they don’t come out, if they can hear the choppers ?

and you can set various multiples of it.. 1x 2x 4x 16 x etc

Francis’ OS-X Realtime Operating System Page http://home.swipnet.se/~w-68269/osx/osx.htm

Yaak, Hmm Ok Its not needed very often but i still dont understand what it is, can you explain it or is it to technical ?

By changing the scheduler, any OS can become an RTOS, of sorts.

US I hope they are alive inside there, the worst thing would be they find dead bodies.

An RTOS allows you to guarantee that a program will have access to the CPU and hardware when it needs it.

But it looks promising

OS-X is written in TML2 and Z80 machine code. I have written hardware drivers (BSPs) for several home built Z80/Z180 systems.

should be at least one

dude.. did you read the website you got from google?

The bad part of it is, it costs 100s of 1000s of dollars to rescue these people.

I am reading

That is NOT Mac OS.

his page is under construction so no source code or binary package is available yet…

I’m sure they will get a bill ;P

yea, no kidding

what people?

Maybe they should have to buy insurance to climb it or they should close it off during the winter season.

why do they calll it osx Lupine| you proved your point but osx is not ment for real time

The last one was OS 9 And this is OS 10.

Yaak, ahh ok.. So it gives it instant asscess to the cpu when it wants it.

And the roman numeral for 10 is X.

OS 9 kick ass I still use os 9

Vista Beta before he crashed into that skyscraper?

But it isn’t important

because it predates Apple OS-X.. and in fact.. Apple was going to be in trademark trouble.. but they settled btw, you know what the Z80 processor is?

They call it OS-X, not OS X–which is Apple’s OS.

his page is under construction so no source code or binary package is available yet…

I thought Mac made Apples

Lupine| it a embded os err cpu

Because as usual the CPU is always processing instructions which sometimes slows it down. Which if something was an emergency that would be bad.

or, apple made macs

Apple ended up paying/licensing from them, just to avoid a rather open/shut lawsuit :-)

I just got a $79 320 gb sata HD today

the Z80 were used in some of the early home PC’s.. such as the Tandy 80.. aka the Trash 80

FreeTrade you did from where

Macintosh is not even the best apple. THey should have called it Golden Delicious

Lupine| why the tandy was good system had great programs better then the ibm comptuers

silly computer people

Ive found out I need more for backup. Its better to use Internal HDs for backup and use portables for actual data storage

but its only ~25 years out of date :P but, for what they still use it for, its a good chip microwaves, calculators, etc

Apple should have a Granny Smith computer really cheap

z80 was in the gameboy too

because it doesnt take a lot to corrupt a lot of USB/Firwire externals Also its slower with the externals

FreeTrade where did you buy that drive online store ???

drive

FreeTrade again where did you find that drive so cheap

anyways, this is my current RT controller of choice: http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/201847

tigerdirect

FT right because if the main drive dies, you can install a new main drive, and read backups off the backup drive

FreeTrade oh I tought you went o coscto

no problems with USB

FreeTrade how much does it cost at coscto

and drivers

Bought it with my wifes 0 interest till july 2008 construction Business credit card Not that I couldnt pay cash for it, but with 0 interest, why ?

then put mp3’s and movies on the USB drive and older backups

US, I agree thats what I plan to do

drives are cheap now

Im moving all my movies and stuff to the USB

I have to 80 GB internal drives, same exact type two

They are taking up a lot of space on my hd

FreeTrade why not move them to dvd

I have a 300 gig external or is it 200 gig ? I forget and an 80 gig GOP, I will eventually a lot of them are programs like Oillie Norths War Stories.

and then I have the 400GB USB drive for mp3’s, picture archives, old backups and porn

FreeTrade why not move your movies to dvd

DOH

A great collection of history HiS documentaries are 1st class

I suppose porn counts as “picture archive”

Then see you keep your family pictures on your portable as well as maybe copies of documents like birth certs, ss etc, encrypted and then when you have a fire you grab it and run

yeah now I got my scanner working again I should scane a lot of stuff

But I also plan on doing of site storage for that too its getting cheap

back that up to USB and a DVD

Some charge a fortune..

wha tis site storage

although a copy of a birth certificate might just help you get a valid one it won’t be considered real

but others have programs which encrypt your data way over 256 and then they uploand only data, they probably have a database of all data files or maybe your registry registers data files vs program files and so on.

FreeTrade but olly north is not bias in war stories

which you dont need

but it will tell you what county and provide non-certified info that you can verify later

you can always buy a new windows vista or XP you cant buy that Photo, or that document or etc. You can always buy a new msft office, or adobe or whatever but agains not the documents. so all you really need to back up is all your data..

I even keep a HD in the bank safe deposit box

Lupine| you do

yeah you can do that or put DVD’s in there

Lupine| no way

it’s a good way to have offsite storagte

Lupine| what does that hd have

even thou I have a firesafe at home.. well…

what do you keep in that hd

I think DVD’s would melt at some point

all my personal files, information, etc

and do you regulary back that hd up

Lupine yep. I plan on usin this new drive as perhaps a exact copy of the main drive so if it it fails the new one takes over.

US-Male what do you mean melt and how FreeTrade wouldn’t that slow your computer down

gop_; melt. Turn form solid phase ot liquid phase

See I need to move off DVR shit and convert it to mp2

US-Male how

generally this is a function of temperature ;P

which takes awhile

lol

if it stored in a case

or is it mp4 ? Whichever isnewer

US-Male oh I see

hahah

so dvd don

Then when its my 2 or 4 or whatever I can burn it to disk anc play it in any player

dvd don’t have a large life

firesafes won’t stay cool forever - -tat’s why you might consider a safe deposit box or offsite storage

FreeTrade but it easy to do dvr to mp4 to dvd

JEsus, you guys looking at where those climbers are on tv ?

it easy FreeTrade it takes couple of seconds

now my big gun cabinet well.. it would survive the house burning down.. it’s like a 90minute burn time

FT yeah

They are like ants attached to a shear wall some of thm.

the buring on to the dvd takes longer

yeah in which case, unloaded might be better

GOP it takes me an hour to say convert a 2 hour program to mp4 How do you do it in seconds ? I use Nero there newer release

you know what would suck is if you have a gun cabinet in the basement, guns pointing up — fire hits your basement and they all go off

have a fast cpu

newer= last year or so

and lots of memory and use pincle software

I have a fast cpy

FreeTrade do you have 16 x dvd burner

and tons of ram I have converted programs and never topped out my ram GOP I have to convert it before I write it.

perhaps the loaded ones should point downward if on a lower floor hehhe

do you know a program which is faster than Nero ? Which can do it fast ? Nero is not fast

HAHAHAHHAHAH.. when my wife’s company sent her her new computer, they sent her 2 LCD’s. She kept her old ones we bought [ as they’re better ].

it takes an hour to convert it

Lupine| why two

a 7 gig file is easily an hour or more or 2

So as a joke, I set those two on the bookcase next to my desk.. my wife comes in.. see’s them.. “Okay, now you’re just getting silly”
