If I produce software, it’s mine. I can use it however I want and I don’t have to tell anyone about it, much less how it works. BUT when I go sell a disc containing that software, I shouldn’t be able to dictate how someone else uses that disc - even if they decide to produce their own identical discs.
Today I dont know of many software programs worth 5k, but you can buy autocad and adobe and all kinds of stuff for very cheap still, its just hidden better.

Or I might want to contract with an architect for a set of blueprints or design and I want to purchase them and then cut lose the architect who duplicates himself as a secong contractor, 2nd building inspector etc and costs the job an extra 10 -20% which if its a 300k hom can be substantial.
